The city of Albacete is located in the southeast of the Spanish region of Castilla-La Mancha. Albacete or «Al-basit» (the name given by the Moors) offers a wide range of spectacular contrasts in the land known, at home and abroad, as the native home of Don Quixote.
Its numerous historical monuments reflect a long history of commerce. Worth mentioning are the variety of marvellous Modernist style buildings situated along the «calle Ancha» (Ancha Street), one of the city’s main streets, the Pasaje de Lodares, the fantastic Museo de la Cuchillería (Knife Museum), one of Europe’s three existing museums and home of valuable knife collections, the «Teatro Circo de Albacete» (Albacete Circus Theatre), one of the few remaining theatres of this type in Europe, and the Albacete Fair Centre, a typical Manchego type building used exclusively for the Albacete Fair held in September, from 7th to 17th.
